WHICH SAT/ACT PREPARATION IS BEST FOR YOU
Not every student needs the same type of preparation. Don't enroll your student in a program designed for someone else.
Independent Study
Students who score above the 90th percentile on the PSAT can study independently from books or internet sources. They have a good grasp of the content, have good test-taking skills, and understand how the test works. Students who are able to discipline themselves for self-study can improve their scores.
Group Study—Review Sessions
Students who scored in the 85th percentile understand most of the content and have good test-taking skills. Group sessions will provide an overview of test and discuss general strategies. They are usually able to improve their scores with a few practice tests.
Individual Instruction—Intensive for 6-8 weeks
Students who have good grades but test less than their potential will benefit from an intensive review before they take the SAT or ACT. Often these students have issues with time, analyzing test questions, and remembering some concepts that are tested on the exam. Since they may have gaps in areas of reading, math, grammar, or science(ACT), they need an individualized rather than a group approach.
Individual Instruction—Practice Over Time for 6-8 months
Students who have content weaknesses in math, reading(including vocabulary), or writing, need to work on these skills for the test and for college. By working over time, the student builds the skills needed to do well on the tests and also strengthens the skills necessary to do well on college level work.
