So what are they?
"Learning Style" is a term used to describe the ways people prefer to learn and remember information. Sometimes people refer to modes or modalities, but most people use the term learning style. Listed below are various learning styles.
- VISUAL/SPATIAL
You prefer using pictures, images, and spatial understanding. - AURAL/AUDITORY
You prefer using sound and music. - VERBAL/LINGUISTIC
You prefer using words, both in speech and writing. - PHYSICAL/KINESTHETIC
You prefer using your body, hands and sense of touch. - LOGICAL/MATHEMATIC
You prefer using logic, reasoning and systems. - SOCIAL/INTERPERSONAL
You prefer to learn in groups or with other people. - SOLITARY/INTRAPERSONAL
You prefer to work alone and use self-study.
Most people have a combination of learning styles, and the style may change depending on the task. You might be very verbal and social. But for some tasks, like a very difficult reading assignment, you may use visual cues, like underlining, note-taking, and graphic organizers, and you may prefer to work alone.
