Learning Styles:
How do they Apply?
- Students who are very aural, logical, and social will enjoy talking about the information and being quizzed orally. They may like to make up rhymes or use a favorite song to help them remember information.
- As auditory students mature, they have to learn to use their auditory strengths as they employ more visual strategies (note cards, underlining, notes, graphic organizers) to help them learn.
- Even the most auditory student will reach a point when she cannot remember everything she has heard or read, and she has to use visual strategies as well.
- Students who are visual, physical and/or logical will use pictures, notes, flashcards and games to help them learn information.
- Solitary students will like flashcards and two-column notes because they can study by themselves.
- More social learners may want to work with a partner to create a graphic organizer or note cards. There are programs (like quizzlets) that make flashcards on the computer—and students can always use a PowerPoint slide show.
